Brief
Young people who were engaged with our team through another project brought to our attention the issue of railway safety in their area. They indicated they would like to produce a film to raise awareness around the subject. So together with Staffordshire Young People's Service and Staffordshire Fire & Rescue Service we approached Network Rail for some support. They welcomed the idea and we were successful in securing First Light funding so the self developed brief was to create a video that focussed on the dangers of tresspassing on Railway property, accompanied by promotional print and teachers resources.
Solution
To recruit additional young people, the opportunity to star in, or help produce a film was promoted by the existing young people. Through this we recruited the group who met every two weeks over several months to develop the storyline, scripts, identify locations, create characters and produce accompanying printed material.
The filming took place at a local dissused train station with young people acting, filming and directing the action. There were also sessions arranged to film green screen material at the local fire station. Editing was managed between our team and a few enthuasiastic young people who attended extra sessions to be involved in the post production.
