Brief
Bilston Art Gallery combined with Bilston Academy set us the challenge to engage with Year 10 students to create graffiti art that represented the changing landscape of the area. The art-work was to be sited on the hoardings around the building site for the new community leisure centre.
Solution
The students had no experience with using graffiti art techniques and they felt overwhelmed by the challenge so we made a decision as a group to create the art using stencils. This would allow them to have more control over what they were creating. Once this decision was made the group set to work on creating deigns that represented how Bilston was in the past, how it is now and how they believe it will be in the future.
The designs were then drawn onto large plastic sheets that were cut out using craft knifes so the students could spray through the shapes to create the artwork shown above.
